Each participant will be paired with a U of A graduate student. Campers will be screened to target the areas needing the most improvement or enrichment. They will experience literacy lessons and games in an engaging and laid-back environment. Campers also will have the opportunity to interact with other students who share their developmental levels.

In addition to individualized literacy tutoring, the 2023 summer camp will focus on nonfiction texts combined with hands-on learning experiences centered on topics in earth and space science, life science, and physical science.

The two-week literacy camp occurs weeks prior to the beginning of the school year. Each U of A candidate providing intervention for students understands the Science of Reading program and the various challenges students face in learning to read. Candidates use the principles of Response to Intervention and how to best use formative assessment combined with evidence-based practices to make reading and writing gains with each student.

The goal is to teach students strategies aligned with school-based instruction. The Clinic for Literacy serves students from multiple districts and private schools, as well as home schools. Everyone is welcome!
