Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

The program Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) is designed to prepare individuals in the United States and abroad to teach English to students whose first language is not English. Graduates also are prepared to create and implement curriculum and appropriate assessments for English as a second or foreign language (ESL). It is part of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction.

The University of Arkansas will present its inaugural, interactive Grow Your Own (GYO) Educators Convening titled "Rooting Our Future Within Our Community, Feb. 5, 2024, with participants limited to 100. The symposium is sponsored by the U of A College of Education and Health Professions, the Walton Family Foundation and Projects REACH and ELEVATE.

Master of Education in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

ESL is listed on the Arkansas List of Teaching Areas of Critical Need. The M.Ed. in TESOL program is expected to help reduce that need.
