Admission Requirements

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education

If the undergraduate degree is in education such as early childhood education or secondary education,  the initial license with special education endorsement is appropriate.

If the undergraduate degree is outside eduction

 

Generally, for admission to the Master of Education in Special Education requirements include:

  1. Apply through the Graduate School application process and gain entrance
  2. Submit via the Graduate School application portal
    1. Resume
    2. Three letters of reference
    3. Written statement of purpose describing past experience relevant to the master's and career objectives
    4. Show evidence of meeting at least one criteria in each of the following skill areas:
      • Writing
        • 3.0 cumulative grade-point average overall or last 60 hours
        • Passing ACT/SAT/GRE/Praxis Core scores in Writing or
        • Accuplacer Next Generation Score of 251.
      • Math: (a) Writing: (a) 3.0 cumulative GPA overall or last 60 hours, (b) passing ACT/SAT/GRE/Praxis Core scores in Math, or (c) Accuplacer Next Generation Score of 251.
      • Reading: (a) 3.0 cumulative GPA overall or last 60 hours, (b) passing ACT/SAT/GRE/Praxis Core scores in Reading, or (c) Accuplacer Next Generation Score of 251
  3.  
  4. A cumulative grade-point average in the last 60 hours taken that should be 3.0 or higher
  5. A current (within 7 years) standardized core knowledge test, such as the GRE, ACT or Core PRAXIS
  6. Letters of recommendation
