The University of Arkansas Literacy Camp is an intensive tutoring program for students kindergarten through 6th grade who want/need help with reading. The Literacy Camp is a part of a reading assessment and intervention course in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, in the College of Education and Health Professions. The tutors are pre-service students.

The Camp will meet at local Elementary Schools, Thursdays January 19 through May 4, 2017 (school holidays not included). The Camp meets from 3:15 – 4:30. Snacks are provided from 3:15 – 3:30 and the interventions begin at 3:30. Parents must provide transportation.

During days one and two of the camp, tutors will administer a series of diagnostic assessments to determine your child’s reading strengths and weaknesses. Based on the assessment findings, parent information, and/or school data, the tutor will plan an individualized remediation program for your child, with the guidance of University faculty.

At the end of the Camp, students will be re-assessed to determine progress. Parents will receive a written report of all pre- and post-assessment results along with recommendations for further improvement. We will prepare and send the same report to the child’s school.

In order to be a candidate for the Literacy Camp, a child must be in grades kindergarten through sixth. A recommendation by one of his/her classroom teachers is preferred, but not required.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have further questions or concerns regarding the Camp. We appreciate your interest and look forward to working with you and your child(ren).
