  • Examining effectiveness of novice teachers who have completed M.A.T. and those with alternative licensure

Professional Biography:

LaVonne Kirkpatrick received her Ed.D. in Elementary Education from the University of South Dakota. In addition she was an elementary teacher for nine years in South Dakota and was a recipient of a Hayes-Fulbright Teacher Abroad Seminar Award to India.  Her special interests are literacy acquisition and assessment and viable strategies and options for ADD/ADHD children.

Academic Interests and Accomplishments:

Kirkpatrick has authored or co-authored several articles on areas in teacher preparation and teacher education. She has presented at numerous state, regional, national, and international conferences.  Kirkpatrick was the recipient of the Outstanding Teaching Award in 2001 and 2002 in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction.  She also shared the honor of Outstanding Departmental Advisor in 2003. Dr. Kirkpatrick currently serves at the Vice Chair of the Kappa State Education Foundation Board of Trustees.
