Professional Biography:

Kathy Malstrom came to the University of Arkansas in August of 1999 as a nine-month academic counselor in the Boyer Advising Center that was part of the office of Student Services for the College of Education and Health Professions. She had previously held the position of an academic counselor in the Elementary Education Department at Iowa State University. She earned both her B.S.E. and M.S. degrees from Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind. During her years at the University of Arkansas, she has served as an academic counselor moving into a full-time position as an academic counselor in 2000. She also taught a class for the First Year Experience in 2000 and 2001 before assuming her current position of Coordinator of Teacher Education and Certification Officer.

Job Duties:

Kathy is responsible for the Title II report, Title II Survey and the American Colleges of Teacher Education (AACTE) and National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) PEDS reports. She serves as certification officer responsible for the recommendation of all teacher candidates at the University of Arkansas. She attends local and regional school/district functions and meetings held by the Arkansas Department of Education, the Professional Licensure Division that deals with state licensing requirements. Kathy is responsible for the Evaluations of Internship that track potential M.A.T. students. She is responsible for information posted on the college’s Web site that falls under the area of certification/licensure information. She conducts yearly informational meetings to deliver licensing packets. She participates in yearly informational/recruiting meetings for students present on the University of Arkansas campus. She serves as a resource person for student groups. She attends State Board meetings as needed. She assists with the placement of University of Arkansas students in schools/districts for their early clinical field-based experiences. She also serves as ex-officio member of the UTEBIC board and the Northwest Arkansas Partnership Steering Committee.
