Chelsie Shaw award

Chelsie Shaw, left, is pictured with her principal, Tammy Allen.

University of Arkansas graduate Chelsie Shaw was recently named teacher of the year at Austin Middle School where she teaches in Douglasville, Ga.

Shaw earned her Bachelor of Science in Education in 2005 and her Master of Arts in Teaching in 2006, both from the College of Education and Health Professions.

Nominations for the award came from parents, students and administrators. Shaw is now up for teacher of the year for the entire Paulding County (Ga.) School District. She teaches sixth grade.

Shaw credited professor Samuel Totten for her success.

“You really taught me the art of teaching,” Shaw wrote in an e-mail in which she shared her news. “You wouldn’t believe how many lessons I have used that were created in your class.”

We want to hear from you. Please e-mail comments and feedback to Heidi Stambuck at stambuck@uark.edu.
