The Career and Technical Education program offers a Bachelor of Science in Education degree with concentrations of study in Business Education, Family and Consumer Sciences Education, Technology Education and Competency-Based Teacher Development.
A major in BUED offers on-campus students the chance to become effective educators and communicators as they learn to teach the latest computer technologies and sharpen their education and interpersonal skills. Individualized programs are designed to advance communication, critical thinking, human resource development, pedagogy, problem-solving, as well as research, scholarship and technical skill. After successfully completing the program, the candidate will be eligible to apply for teacher licensure in the state of Arkansas.
On-campus students pursuing the Bachelor of Science in Education degree may select the Family and Consumer Sciences Education Program Concentration as a field of specialization in vocational education. Requirements for initial licensure may be met by completion of the B.S.E. and the Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.)
A Bachelor of Science in Education degree with a concentration in technology education is a licensure program that prepares one to teach technology, pre-engineering, or other technical subject matter at the high school, middle-level, or community college. Additionally, the program prepares one to enter mid-level technical/management careers in business and industry.
The Bachelor of Science in Education with a concentration in competency-based teacher development is for incumbent (in-service) trade and technical instructors who desire to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Education degree or become certified as a master instructor in the post-secondary vocational and secondary school systems. The concentration utilizes field-based units of instruction.
The Bachelor of Science in Education teacher-preparation degree is offered in two areas: childhood education and middle level education.
The M.A.T. in Childhood Education prepares teachers to teach reading, math, writing, science, art, and music in elementary schools. Licensure is for grades P-4.
The M.A.T. in Middle Level Education prepares teachers to teach in middle schools with emphasis in either social studies/English or math/science. Licensure is for grades 5-8.
The Ed.S. in Curriculum and Instruction is designed to give curriculum and instruction directors, supervisors, department heads, and career teachers opportunities to develop in-depth competency related to particular needs.
The Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction emphasizes the generation of new knowledge or the reformulation of existing knowledge as a basis for the development of educational theory.
The M.Ed. in Educational Administration prepares students seeking administrative positions in elementary and secondary schools.
The Ed.S. in Educational Administration provides professional preparation for students involved in school site administration and those who have districtwide administrative responsibility.
The Ed.D. in Educational Administration provides professional preparation for students pursuing careers as principals and other building administrators and supervisors in public and private schools; superintendents and other central administrative personnel; federal and state governmental agency officials; educational administration professoriate; and other education related professionals.
The M.S. in Educational Statistics and Research Methods develops professionals in the areas of educational research methods and policy studies through research methods, applied statistics, and educational foundations courses.
The Ph.D. in Educational Statistics and Research Methods develops professionals in the areas of educational statistics and research methods.
The Graduate Certificate in Educational Program Evaluation recognizes students who take a concentrated core of courses focused on systematic and rigorous evaluation of educational programs and policies. Students who earn this certificate have a working knowledge of qualitative and quantitative evaluation procedures and can use these to plan, conduct and report on evaluations.
The Graduate Certificate in Educational Measurement develops professionals in the areas of measurement, testing and assessment through courses in the area of instrument development and research design. Graduates can obtain employment with educational agencies and industries with assessment and research analysis needs.
The Graduate Certificate in Education Policy Studies recognizes students who take a concentrated core of courses focused on education policy and public policy. Students who earn this certificate develop a framework for studying issues in public policy and education policy, examine how education policy is developed and implemented, and learn methods for evaluating programs and policies.
The Graduate Certificate in Educational Statistics and Research Methods recognizes students who complete a core of courses focused on developing theoretical, application and interpretative aspects of statistical techniques and research methods. Graduate students completing this certificate will also develop comprehensive programming and data management skills necessary for today's academic researcher.
The M.Ed. in Educational Technology focuses on instructional design, training and development, media literacy, teacher education, and production of educational technologies.
The Bachelor of Science in Education in Elementary Education is a four-year initial licensure program in partnership with NorthWest Arkansas Community College.
The M.Ed. in Elementary Education is designed for already-licensed teachers of elementary education who want to expand professional competence.
The M.A.T. in Secondary Education prepares teachers for middle and high schools in a wide variety of teaching areas.
The M.Ed. in Secondary Education is designed for already-licensed teachers of secondary education who want to expand professional competence.
The M.Ed. in Special Education prepares teachers already licensed in general education for teaching students in grades 4-12 with a variety of disabilities as well as students identified as gifted and talented.
