The Department of Curriculum and Instruction offers a Bachelor of Science in Education degree in Career and Technical Education with several concentrations:
The M.Ed. in Secondary Education-CATE is designed for already-licensed teachers of secondary teachers who want to expand their professional competence. It is designed for students in Career and Technical Education who desire to be a teacher or for already-licensed CATE teachers who desire advanced knowledge in their subject area.
P-4 grades, Fayetteville Campus
This degree does not lead directly to teacher licensure. To be recommended for an initial teaching license in childhood education (pre-kindergarten through grade 4), the student must complete both the B.S.E. in Childhood Education and the Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) in Childhood Education degree programs.
The M.A.T. in Childhood Education prepares teachers to teach reading, math, writing, science, art, and music in elementary schools. Licensure is for grades P-4.
The M.A.T. in Middle Level Education prepares teachers to teach in middle schools with emphasis in either social studies/English or math/science. Licensure is for grades 5-8.
The Ed.S. in Curriculum and Instruction is designed to give curriculum and instruction directors, supervisors, department heads, and career teachers opportunities to develop in-depth competency related to particular needs.
The Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction emphasizes the generation of new knowledge or the reformulation of existing knowledge as a basis for the development of educational theory.
The M.Ed. in Educational Administration prepares students seeking administrative positions in elementary and secondary schools.
The Ed.S. in Educational Administration provides professional preparation for students involved in school site administration and those who have districtwide administrative responsibility.
The Ed.D. in Educational Administration provides professional preparation for students pursuing careers as principals and other building administrators and supervisors in public and private schools; superintendents and other central administrative personnel; federal and state governmental agency officials; educational administration professoriate; and other education related professionals.
The M.S. in Educational Statistics and Research Methods develops professionals in the areas of educational research methods and policy studies through research methods, applied statistics, and educational foundations courses.
The Ph.D. in Educational Statistics and Research Methods develops professionals in the areas of educational statistics and research methods.
The Graduate Certificate in Educational Program Evaluation recognizes students who take a concentrated core of courses focused on systematic and rigorous evaluation of educational programs and policies. Students who earn this certificate have a working knowledge of qualitative and quantitative evaluation procedures and can use these to plan, conduct and report on evaluations.
The Graduate Certificate in Educational Measurement develops professionals in the areas of measurement, testing and assessment through courses in the area of instrument development and research design. Graduates can obtain employment with educational agencies and industries with assessment and research analysis needs.
The Graduate Certificate in Education Policy Studies recognizes students who take a concentrated core of courses focused on education policy and public policy. Students who earn this certificate develop a framework for studying issues in public policy and education policy, examine how education policy is developed and implemented, and learn methods for evaluating programs and policies.
The Graduate Certificate in Educational Statistics and Research Methods recognizes students who complete a core of courses focused on developing theoretical, application and interpretative aspects of statistical techniques and research methods. Graduate students completing this certificate will also develop comprehensive programming and data management skills necessary for today's academic researcher.
The Educational Technology Program is a 33-hour non-thesis online master's program that prepares students for professional positions as educational technologists of education, business, government, and the health professions.
P-4 grades - Rogers Campus
The Bachelor of Science in Education in Elementary Education is a four-year initial licensure program in partnership with NorthWest Arkansas Community College. UA courses are held at the Global Campus in Rogers.
The M.Ed. in Elementary Education is designed for already-licensed teachers of elementary education who want to expand professional competence.
The M.A.T. in Secondary Education prepares teachers for middle and high schools in a wide variety of teaching areas.
The M.Ed. in Secondary Education is designed for already-licensed teachers of secondary education who want to expand professional competence.
The M.Ed. in Special Education prepares teachers already licensed in general education for teaching students with exceptionality. An Additional License Program is available for Special Education Instructional Specialists in Grades 4-12. Additionally, a graduate program leading to an Endorsement in Gifted Education is also available for teachers interested in earning a master degree with a licensure endorsement in Gifted and Talented.
