The Department of Curriculum and Instruction offers a four-year initial licensure B.S.E. degree option in elementary education in partnership with NorthWest Arkansas Community College in Bentonville. The first two years of the program are offered at the community college and will culminate in an Associate’s Degree. Students who earn a minimum 2.7 GPA on freshman and sophomore prerequisite coursework and submit passing scores on all 3 parts of the Praxis I exam by April 15 of the entrance year will be invited to participate in an interview with faculty and will be required to complete a writing sample for analysis as part of that screening. A valid CPR card for both children and adults and admission to the University of Arkansas are also required. Selected candidates will be eligible to register for the UA junior courses.
Junior and senior level coursework is held at the UA Global Campus in Rogers.
Senior-level students have a full year of student teaching experience in elementary schools in Rogers, Bentonville, or Springdale. Upon meting all graduation requirements, students are eligible for pre-kindergarten through fourth-grade licensure.
The Degree Requirements sheet posted applies to all new students and students who switch to this program/degree beginning fall 2008. If you have been working from a different sheet, your course requirements will still be honored or you may elect to switch to this plan.
To ensure you are on track and following the appropriate guide, it is imperative you schedule an appointment with UA advisor, Tay Sha Carter.
