B.S.E. in Elementary Education
Curriculum Overview
- The curriculum consists of a minimum of 124 hours. NWACC classes are blocked to show a recommended sequence.
- The first two years of the program are offered at NWACC and will culminate in the Associate of Science degree. Contact Tay Sha Carter prior to applying for NWACC graduation due to needed course substitution forms. You also have the option to complete UA requirements through the Associate of Arts or Associate of Arts in Teaching P-4. If you are pursuing this program, it is imperative you meet with Tay Sha Carter as soon as possible for advising.
- Students who earn a minimum 2.7 GPA on freshman and sophomore prerequisite coursework and submit passing scores on all 3 parts of the Praxis I exam by April 15 of the entrance year will be invited to participate in an interview with faculty and will be required to complete a writing sample for analysis as part of that screening. A valid CPR card for both children and adults and admission to the University of Arkansas are also required. Selected candidates will be eligible to register for the fall junior courses of the Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education**. Go to http://www.ets.org/ for information on the Praxis I exam.
- UA courses for the junior and senior years will be held at the Pinnacle Center One Building in Rogers. A cohort of junior-level students begins each fall semester.
- This BSE (4-year) degree includes approximately 9 months of student teaching experience in Rogers, Bentonville, or Springdale elementary schools. Senior-level students must therefore attend full-time.
- PRAXIS II, Early Childhood: Content Knowledge, must be passed prior to the summer session of the senior year. PRAXIS II, Principles of Learning and Teaching: Early Childhood, is taken during the fall semester of the senior year.
