Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Secondary Education

Springdale High SchoolThe Secondary Education Program offers the Master of Education (M.Ed.) and the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT). The M.Ed. program is designed for individuals who already hold a teaching license in secondary education. The MAT is the initial licensing program in secondary education in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Students enter the MAT if they hold a bachelor’s degree in a teaching content area (e.g. science, history, English).

The Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) is a degree program of 33-34 semester hours. The M.A.T. degree is the initial teacher licensure program for students at the University of Arkansas.
